I haven’t blogged in a long time. For a number of reasons really.
Firstly I made it feel like a chore. Like it was a job that needed to be done and simply ticked off a list. But that’s not what blogging is to me. Although, for a time, that’s what it became. I blog because I love to write, to find new ways of expressing myself and to connect with people through my writing. It is not a job, I do not get paid for it and I don’t have any deadlines I need to keep – even those ones which are self-imposed.
Secondly, I’ve been busy. Two small people can be quite time-consuming but I think we’re verging on another stage where I can steal some time for writing blog posts. They’re playing together more and more and leaving me, the odd one out, to carry on with some writing time.
Thirdly, I have actually been writing – a lot, in fact – but it’s all been fiction. I finished my YA novel She-Wolf and I’m currently working on an adult thriller called Go Seek, which I am really enjoying writing.
And last but not least, I took some time away because the world of social media can be tough going sometimes and it comes hand in hand with a blog in a lot of ways. I was simply sick of seeing bad news on feeds and all across social media. I know, yes, it’s all on the T.V. and in newspapers, which I don’t ignore, but there’s something different to hearing the news and/or reading it once to scrolling through newsfeeds with bad story on top of bad story filling up your screen.
And now I’m back. I’m back to write what I want, when I want and not worry a damn about social media. I’m back to do what I love – write.
